barcelona guide

Barcelona is my favorite city in the world. It has so much culture, great shopping, a crazy nightlife, good food, beaches and everything you need for a perfect holiday. Since I have been there alot of times now I thought I should do a "Barcelona Guide" with my personal favorites and tips. I will write this in english only!

I recommend everyone to check out apartments on airbnb, it's alot for the money and much better than a hotel in my opinion. We booked an apartment last summer and it was so nice to make drinks at home, fill up the refridgerator with everything we wanted and have a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and bedrooms all for ourselves. We made our breakfast and lunch at home and ate it at the beach. Since the prices at the beach is hilarious, 20 euroes for a sandwich. Alot of money to save! You also get more space and freedom in an apartment and we really enjoyed it. The neighbourhood we stayed in was "Poblenou" and was perfect for us since it was 5-7 minutes walk to the beach, alot of restaurants and a huge supermarked close by,  and 10-15 minutes walk to the clubs. A cab to the city was less then 10 euroes.

Barcelona has a lot of beautiful architecture. To take a walk in the "old town" and visit an old church was amazing and interesting. The architecture of Gaudi is breathtaking, you should take a look at "Casa batllo" and also visit Parq Guell.
"La Boqueria" is a food marked that I also recommend a visit. It's alot of good prices and alot of different tastes. You can buy ice cream, Iberian Ham, Cheese, smoothies, meat, fruit, wine - everything. Even though if you don't plan on buying anything it's worth a visit.

I visited the winery with my classmates and it was a memorable experience. It is about 30 minutes drive from Barcelona in interesting countryside, the tour is very educative and wine tasting at the end was fabulous. There is also possibility to buy all wines and brandy from their production.

There is an incredible variety of clothes shops to suit all tastes, from the cheaper, younger Spanish brands like Bershka to top international fashion houses like Chanel. Most shops in Barcelona open at 09:30 or 10:00 in the morning and close at 20:00. The shopping malls in Barcelona open at 10.00 and stay open until 22:00. Big shopping brand chains and malls and most shops in the popular shopping areas of Barcelona do not shut for lunch, but many smaller shops and shops outside the city centre often close for two hours during lunch.

Passeig de Gracia street
Passeig de Gracia is perhaps the nicest street in Barcelona to shop on. It is a beautiful wide tree lined boulevard with lovely architecture and some of Barcelona’s top hotels and restaurants. You can find most of the flagship stores of the top Spanish and International exclusive luxury brands here.

Rambla de Catalunya
One of Barcelona’s most charming streets for strolling and there are many cute small boutiques and shops in a mix of styles. There are many small fashion boutiques, accessory shops, gift shops and cafes.

La Roca Village
It is an luxury outlet shopping village with 100 designer outlet boutiques, cafes and restaurants. La Roca is outside Barcelona and located 30 minutes and 40km from Barcelona You can get there by car or shuttle bus. In 2016 a new outlet mall opened just south of Barcelona called
Viladecans The Style Outlets. The Style Outlets Barcelona outlet centre have 150 outlet shops of popular fashion brands.

If you want alot of people to look at and don't mind that the water can be dirty and that is a bit shallow you should go to Barceloneta. Alot of young people, club promoters, drinks, music and fun. Or you can go to a much cleaner beach right next to it that is called Platja del Bogatell. This was closest to our apartment and it was very relaxing(no annoying promoters), clean and the water was so clear. I like both of them and it all depends on the mood where I want to spend the day.

I’ve always liked to explore on my holidays the most interesting places to eat, all the way from upscale establishments to local joints and street food. I'm such a foodie and realy love food! I'm a bit bad at remembering names of restaurants. Haha. But almost every restaurant I have been on in Barcelona had good food.  I'm a huge fan of tapas. Here are some of my favorites:

Los Toreros
Tucked away on one of Barcelona’s many narrow streets, Los Toreros offers some of the finest Catalan tapas and wine at the lowest prices. The service is unpretentious and the atmosphere is very much one of ‘Grandma’s kitchen’. The best calamari I have ever tasted!

Chicken bar
Been at this restaurant many times and it is a good reason for that. Located at the marina and has very good food. The staff is very friendy too and the atmphosphere is amazing. The drinks are also yummie!

Bodega la Palma
In the Gothic Quarter. It’s a bit tricky to find but certainly worth the hunt. The atmosphere is super chill and you’ll find all your favorite tapas dishes deliciously made. If you’ve had enough cervezas, why not go for some house wine – the barrels are just as you enter the front door.

The night life in Barcelona is C.R.A.ZY. You usually don't go out before 01 am and it is open til 06 am. It's alot of promoters that is trying to sell you a good deal at the beach, but honestly you never get what you pay for. You have to stand in a line and you don't get a table unless you pay for it(it's never included in a package deal). It's much better to get there before a certain time mostly 01-02 am to get in for free and if you are early it is not so much line either. Or you get there later and talk to some promoters and they often give you some good deals up front. You can of course ignore those promoters and go there after the free entrance and pay 10-20 euroes included a drink. On the Marina it is more expensive then other places, but honestly I like it there because if you feel like you want to check out different places during the night it's many clubs next to each other. I am all about r&b and hiphop clubs. I like to dance!  Opium, Shoko, Catwalk, Razzmatazz(danceclub with 5 floors), and Jamboree(a small hiphop club in the city) are my favorites. Bestial for predrinks or sundays! You should check out the events online to see what Dj is playing and go where they have the music you like to have the best night!

Hope you liked this guide <3
